CONTEMPLATING THE VOID
February 12, 2010

Mass Studies' project, Art Trap, is on display at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York!

Excerpt:
Since its opening in 1959, the Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Guggenheim building has served as an inspiration for invention, challenging artists and architects to react to its eccentric, organic design. The central void of the rotunda has elicited many unique responses over the years, which have been manifested in both site-specific solo shows and memorable exhibition designs. For the building’s 50th anniversary, the Guggenheim Museum invited nearly two hundred artists, architects, and designers to imagine their dream interventions in the space for the exhibition Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum. Organized by Nancy Spector, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, and David van der Leer, Assistant Curator for Architecture and Design, the exhibition will feature renderings of these visionary projects in a salon-style installation that will emphasize the rich and diverse range of the proposals received.

Exhibition: Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum
Location: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, USA
Dates: February 12 ~ April 28, 2010

GYEONGGI MOMA: BIG INABA MAD MASS
December 17, 2008

Along the main theme of Promotion and Architecture, four architecture firms (BIG, Inaba, MAD, Mass Studies) proposed to stimulate the lobby of the Gyeonggido Museum of Modern Art with furniture that investigates a possible future master plan of Ansan City. As an architectural exercise of scales, the master plan activates the long and narrow lobby space with a model of Ansan City and its future structures. The 'model' can also be used as furniture by visitors, in an exploration almost Hollywood-esque in its multi-venue adventures and synergistic qualities.

The exhibition will be held 18 Dec. 2008 ~ 15 Feb. 2009.

NAM JUNE PAIK ART CENTER: Now Jump!
October 8, 2008

NOW JUMP, the festival’s title, originates in the punch line from one of Aesop’s fables: “Hic Rhodus, Hic saltus!” NOW JUMP is an appeal to not simply rely on past achievements: NOW is always the time to act and JUMP. This title is an invitation or call to action but also represents the ambition of the Nam June Paik Art Center to leap into the future through the NJP Festival.

Mass Studies showcases Seoul Commune 2026 in this festival, using mixed media of projections, models, wall prints and intruded images.

From political Karaoke, digital projections of Veteran stories from a Humvee, and a technology hip-hop opera on the climate impact on Antarctica - Dialog:City is a cutting-edge convergence of art and public life.

Inspired on the occasion of the City of Denver hosting the Democratic National Convention, Dialog:City is a non-partisan creative and civic catalyst whose mission is to spark dialogue across the city through innovative cultural initiatives.
