NEW TRENDS OF ARCHITECTURE
June 1, 2006

The fourth edition of New Trends of Architecture will be launched at the University of Patras Conference and Cultural Center in Patras, Greece, European Capital of Culture 2006, on June 2, 2006 . Greece is the country where the European Capital of Culture scheme was invented in 1985 by Melina Mercouri, the then Minister of Culture in Greece with a dream to foster deeper knowledge of the differences and similarities of European cultures among the EU member states, using the language of Culture.

For this edition, Winy Maas (MVRDV) and Riken Yamamoto act as the Commissioners and selected 16 promising architects from Europe and Asia-Pacific.
The theme of this edition is “AGENDA”. The two commissioners translated the word ‘trend’ by the relation architecture might have with society, and required the participating architects to respond to this theme.
In Patras, the two commissioners and the architects will all gather and exchange theirs ideas on “AGENDA” at the symposium on June 3. The English-Greek full color catalogue of 140 pages, including the texts by the Commissioners and the projects by the 16 architects, is published.
